![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Jackie Gleason, original name Herbert John Gleason, (born February 26, 1916, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.-died June 24, 1987, Fort Lauderdale, Florida), American comedian best known for his portrayal of Ralph Kramden in the television series The Honeymooners. In 1934, during the Great Depression when unemployment wavered between 21% and 23%, Jackie Gleason had steady work. After less than a year, he abandoned high school. He began appearing at service and fraternal organizations where he met and worked with his future wife Genevieve Halford. A death certificate filed with the will in Broward Probate Court said death came two months after he was stricken with the liver cancer, but did not say when he contracted colon cancer, the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported today. Gleason, 71, died of liver and colon cancer June 24. ![]()
